Description:
POSITION PURPOSE
Under general supervision provide support for department research through projects, maintenance and communication of data, and execution of laboratory experiments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Carry out protein purification and perform molecular biology experiments, including site-directed mutagenesis.
2. Conduct bacterial colony forming unit and broth dilution assays to evaluate antibiotic potency.
3. Record and compile accurate records and communicate summaries of experimental results.
4. Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data as needed.
5. Carry out assigned duties for ordering supplies and general lab maintenance.
6. Operate, calibrate and perform routine maintenance on specialized equipment used in research.
7. Prepare media and maintain cells by various culturing techniques.
8. Oversee daily lab operation in the absence of the supervisor or Principle Investigator.

MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Understanding of scientific approach and methodologies. Understanding of general and specific laboratory procedures. Ability to use independent judgment. Ability to follow research methodology and protocol. Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures. Strong critical thinking, problem solving, attentiveness to detail, and enthusiasm for research required.
