We are currently seeking a talented Environmental Compliance Specialist to coordinate environmental compliance and reporting for our landfill, transfer and waste hauling sites. This position supports our Southern Region sites and is based in Memphis, TN.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for the implementation and management of all special waste acceptance plans at landfills and transfer stations in the Southern Region of Waste Connections, Inc. This includes the approval or denial of waste streams based on review of all necessary data, testing, and representations of generators for the specific waste materials.
Supports continued environmental compliance of the assigned solid waste landfills, transfer stations and hauling companies with all local, state and federal laws in effect.
Works with Site and District Managers to ensure that facility operating records are established and maintained.
Effectively manages consultants to monitor groundwater, gas and surface water as required for compliance with local, state and federal permits. And further ensures the timely and accurate submittal of the environmental reports associated therewith.
Assures all permits, plans or other environmental regulatory records are properly maintained and kept up to date.
Establishes and maintains the companies Task Compliance Calendar for each facility to assist in the timely collection of samples, data and or the submission of all required reports.
Conducts annual environmental compliance audits of the landfills and transfer stations. And coordinates the completion of annual self audits for the hauling companies
Assists Site and District Managers to resolve environmental issues as they arise in a timely and compliant manner.
Responsible for review and adherence to established and applicable financial site operating budgets.
Follows all company and safety policies and procedures.
Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or related field.
Professional Engineer registration desired.
Minimum 6 years experience in landfill engineering or environmental compliance in air, water, and solid waste or construction project management fields.
Ability to read construction plans and administer contract documents required.
Excellent customer service, written, verbal and interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint and ability to learn and use company specialized applications.
Job incumbents must be able to:
Use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) throughout the day.
Exert physical effort in handling objects less than 30 pounds occasionally.
View a computer screen for extended periods of time.
Use the telephone and/or telephone headset or two-way radio to listen to and respond to others throughout the day.
Work in the office, shop and field.
Travel up to 25% of time to customer or other company locations.
Regularly be exposed to physical environment which involves, dirt, odor, noise, weather extremes or similar elements daily.
Often to work in and around ongoing construction.
