Responsibilities:
The Packaging Engineer II (defined term) will independently evaluate, select and apply standard packaging engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. Work on multiple packaging projects from concept stage to manufacturing in support of new product introductions, package improvements, and costs savings.

As assigned by a project team, supervisor or senior engineer, is able to independently perform any of the following:

Plan, schedule, conduct and coordinate detailed phases of package engineering work as part of a PDP project or as a total project of moderate scope. Work with IQC, QE, R&D, QA and Purchasing to ensure that incoming packaging specifications clearly communicate the requirements needed to ensure that the part or material fulfills its role in the finished product. Seek out, recommend and implement packaging cost savings and improvements. Maintain existing packaging; prepare engineering specifications and quality standards for package components and processes as required. Write protocols for and performs tests; analyze and summarize data; make recommendations and implement when approved. Provide on-going packaging support to operations and other activities of limited scope requiring knowledge of principles and techniques commonly employed in the specific area of assignments. Coordinate with the appropriate suppliers and other external resources needed in developing and implementing packaging design and process improvement plans. Participate in project planning and scheduling. Work directly with suppliers as necessary to resolve packaging issues. Interface with internal customers, including QA, QAE, Purchasing, Distribution, Manufacturing Engineering and other members to resolve packaging issues. Assist in root cause analysis. Visit external customers to understand their packaging needs. Train assemblers, quality control and technicians, as necessary, on processes, equipment and documentation.

Requirements:

B.S. in Packaging Engineering or related degree with 1-2 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment recommended, medical device industry preferred. Knowledge of FDA regulations preferred. This position is defined term with an estimated duration of 8 months.
