Description:
Assesses the WIC eligibility of women, infants, and children, based on the evaluation of income, health history, and assessment of weight, height, diet recall, and hemoglobin. Certifiers provide basic nutritional counseling and referrals to other community agencies, issue vouchers, and explain the procedure for using vouchers. The WIC Certifier must maintain caseload and production levels as specified at each site. QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Experience: Nutrition training or experience, experience working with children and infants, experience working with computers is essential and reception experience helpful.
Licenses/Certificates/Registration: Within 90 days of employment, employee must obtain a HCA (Health Care Assistant) certification (WA sites only) and WIC certification preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required: Bilingual English/Spanish or English/appropriate foreign language required based on demographics of the site. Demonstrate the ability to communicate at level 9 on the ALTA language proficiency scale. The Program Director may designate some slots at various sites as non-bilingual positions. Must be able to work around infants and children; ability to write concise and clear communication in English. Must be able to use basic math skills (including fractions), plot on a graph, and alphabetize lists of names; must have excellent time management skills, and must be flexible and able to work in a team environment.
