Food Service Worker / Line Cook

Job Function :
A food service worker is responsible to prepare salads, sauces, sandwiches, etc. according to proper preparation methods. He/She is also responsible for standard food service work including but not limited to serving food, delivering food and general sanitation duties such as cleaning dishes, pots and pans. He/She has the knowledge of proper food handling procedures and government regulations regarding the food code. A food service worker position requires one to two years of experience in the field or in a related area. He/She has the knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a culinary field. He/She assists other associates engaged in preparing food and beverages for one or more food service outlets by cleaning work areas, equipment and utensils, assisting in food preparation, set up and service and collection of garbage and trash, serves a range of hot and cold food items and may perform cashiering duties. He/She relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. A food service worker works under immediate supervision.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Follows prescribed procedures in setting up hot and cold food lines; chooses proper utensils and sets line units to appropriate temperature for menu items.
2. Mixes ingredients to make dressings, salads, may slice cold meats, cheeses and vegetables.
3. May serve a range of hot and cold food items from counters and steam tables; adds garnishes according to instructions.
4. Replenishes foods, condiments, silverware, glassware, dishes and trays at serving stations.
5. Cleans and maintains dining room, work areas, facilities, utensils and equipment including floors; collects and places garbage and trash in designated containers.
6. Washes pots, pans and other serviceware ensuring sanitary handling; organizes and replaces serviceware to appropriate location.
7. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by Management.

Requirements:
Basic Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED
• 1 year of experience as a line cook or in food preparation in a corporate/restaurant setting.
