PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Victim Advocate (VA) for Army Community Service works as a full-time employee of Zeiders Enterprises, Inc., and functions as the point of contact for installation Victim Advocate services. The Victim Advocates work under the technical oversight of the Family Advocacy Program Manager (FAPM) or a designee appointed by the FAPM. The VA acts as a liaison with the FAP Manager to ensure that comprehensive victim services are provided through a coordinated community response to victims of abuse in accordance with regulations and local SOPs. The VA responds to referrals from victims of abuse (domestic violence and sexual assault), or referrals from the FAP Manager, FAP social workers (case managers) at the medical treatment facility, Social Work Service (SWS), the Provost Marshal or civilian agencies serving victims of abuse.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, marriage, family and child counseling, counseling or behavioral science, education, community health or public health, from an accredited school.
Two years experience working with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault or victim advocacy and services.
One year of experience working with a military or civilian social service agency preferred or experience as a military family member.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Working knowledge of sexual assault and family violence dynamics, local community resources, and relevant federal and state laws. Understanding of the military and DOD FAP is preferred.
Individual must be familiar with the DOD definitions of sexual assault.
Understanding, sensitivity, and empathy for victims. Able to develop trusting helping relationships. Able to work effectively with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Able to intervene in crisis situations, using sound professional judgment, ethical practice, and common sense. Able to work independently to develop, implement, and evaluate safety and intervention plans to meet victim needs. Able to operate within established guidelines of ACS/FAP.
Able to develop and facilitate effective prevention and education trainings that are interactive in nature and scenario based. Topics to include domestic violence and sexual assault.
Able to work cooperatively with military and civilian medical, social service, law enforcement, and legal personnel on behalf of victims.
Proficient in oral and written communication.
Maintain valid unrestricted motor vehicle license. Able to physically perform all contractual duties.
Possess computer skills to enter data in required management reports and utilize information systems to prepare required reports and information.
