Our client is seeking an experienced and savvy Chief Engineer. This position will be based in Reston, VA. Our client is offering a relocation package. Position DetailsThe Chief Engineer must have broad knowledge and understanding of the total design requirements for a VTOL aircraft system along with a comparative understanding so that tradeoffs can be accomplished to optimize design. The Chief Engineer will have the responsibility to oversee and direct the technical and administrative responsibilities of the R&D team. This position initiates, coordinates and manages R&D programs with commercial and US military applicability. Expanded AWNA technical expertise will lead to future DoD contracted efforts. The incumbent will monitor and report program plans, progress and results to management as well as US government customers and DoD reviewers.The incumbent will also be responsible for R&D strategy formulation and implementation of new technologies as they relate to aircraft and component design, operation and performance. The incumbent will be required to work with members of functional engineering, and Business Development along with R&D collaborators in industry and universities. The incumbent will lead a multi-disciplined engineering team to develop new research approaches for the design and testing of selected components and configurations, along with their integration into candidate concept designs. For new and follow-on contracted business, the incumbent plans, initiates and direct the preparation of research technology proposal initiatives and leads or supports the associated marketing activities which could lead to production programs. Contracted opportunities exist with each branch of the US military as well as DARPA, DHS, FAA, and other government agencies. A further responsibility for the incumbent involves the identification, development and management of DoD Classified technologies in support of US DoD. Requirements:
BS/MS is required. PhD in Engineering is a strong plus12 years experience in R&D in technology areas or in VTOL product development testing and certification is required.Graduate degree / PhD (Aeronautical / Aerospace Engineering) is highly preferred.Previous Design/analysis of aerodynamic test systems, components and aircraft configurations is required.Knowledge of test and analysis methods applicable to design of rotorcraft and their elements – compressibility effects, boundary layer/viscous effects including turbulent transition, separation, re-attachments and effects on flight performance, stability and control.Experience with Multinational/Multi-culture working groups, International business organizations and international technical requirements/certificationsExperience in technology research and design related to rotorcraft and rotorcraft systems; test procedures, methods, facilities and instrumentationComputer Design software, analysis methods and software packages, including CATIA and or Unigraphics.CompensationNegotiable
