Payroll AdministratorPURPOSE   Ensures accurate and timely processing and distribution of employee payroll.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS  1.    Computes and records earnings from timesheets and work tickets, subtracting deductions such as income tax withholding, social security payments, insurance, credit union payments, and child support. 2.    Performs matching, batch coding and entering of invoices.3.    Ensures that payments are made in accordance with vendor and supplier time limits.4.    Enters net wages into system, payroll sheet, check stub, and check.                 Process payroll for 170 employees on a weekly basis using payroll software5.    Tracks non-taxable wages, paid time off, and leaves of absence.6.    Prepares and distributes paychecks.7.    Reconciles payroll sub-ledger to general ledger.8.    Remits payroll taxes and government reporting.9.    Prepares monthly, quarterly, and year-end payroll statements.10.    Completes employment verifications.11.    Responds to inquiries from employees and vendors.12.    May track goods purchased by employees, units or departments.13.    May compute wages for employee bonuses, commissions or piece work system.14.    Maintains detailed records and prepares communications as needed.15.    Interacts professionally on a regular basis with staff, vendors and the general public.16.    Assumes additional responsibilities and performs special projects as needed or directed.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training and/or Experience1.    High School diploma or equivalent.2.    Completion of some Accounting coursework at the college level.  3.    Minimum two years of experience in a similar position. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics1.    Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications, accounting and payroll systems and use of intranet and internet.2.    Strong knowledge and understanding accounting principles.3.    Developed analytical and problem solving skills.4.    Strong customer service orientation.5.    Ability to understand and communicate data within financial reports.6.    Ability to demonstrate a high attention to detail and good follow-up skills.  7.    Ability to organize work, engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.8.   ...
