Position Description: The Dev/Test Systems Administrator is responsible for ensuring the availability of development and test environments to support our development activities. These responsibilities include configuration, administration, documenting and troubleshooting of systems utilizing the following technologies: server virtualization, SQL Server databases, data generation software/procedures, development tools and custom applications. Responsibilities: Help to develop, maintain, document and administer processes to schedule, track and report on the usage of dev/test environments. Ensure the availability of dev/test environments using virtualized Servers as well as physical servers. Provision dev/test environments with sufficient resources to support development activities. Create and maintain the platform images for Servers used for development purposes. Develop, document and maintain a process for development and QA engineers to specify the system components, data and applications that are needed to configure a working dev/test environment. Configure and deliver virtual dev/test environments based on specifications provided by a project team. Develop, document and maintain tools and techniques to configure, deliver, and test virtual dev/test environments. Manage a pool of available dev/test Servers to be available for as-needed (check-out/check-in) use by project teams. Perform necessary functions to ensure that a dev/test environment is ready for the next project team when another project team releases it. Develop, document and maintain tools and techniques to support the provisioning of dev/test environments with subsets of production data to be used as test data. Provide assistance in trouble-shooting and solving problems involving the dev/test environments. Provide assistance in deploying software builds into the dev/test environments. Work with development project teams and IS management to resolve any conflicts between project teams for access to dev/test environments. Other duties as assigned to ensure the success of the team and the organization Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience: 3+ years working as a system administrator supporting an enterprise. 3+ years of Windows and/or Linux system administration. 1+ years of NAS and/or SAN experience In depth knowledge of MS-Windows, Linux (prefer SuSE) and VMware LabManager administration a plus 2+ years VMware ESX administration a plus. Experience installing, managing and trouble-shooting Strong Shell programming abilities using common Scripting languages: Perl, PowerShell, etc. Ability to configure hardware and virtual Servers to accurately reproduce the configuration of production hardware Strong analytical and trouble-shooting skills of systems. Willingness to learn, adopt and educate others in new techniques and technologies. Proven ability to manage and solve multiple problems quickly and efficiently. Ability to work independently and collaboratively on a team. Skilled with documenting procedures and writing in-house documentation; ability to write step-wise change procedures. Demonstrated ability to apply creativity and innovation when providing solutions to problems. Understanding and experience with storage systems using SAN/NAS. Ability to communicate with others concerning technical details around the configuration of hardware, software and databases. Strong oral and written communication skills. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience: Experience with relational database technology: SQL Server or PostgreSQL preferred Apache and Geronimo administration a plus. MCP, MCSE, MCSA, VCP or any relevant professional certificates would be a plus.
