We are currently seeking a Materials Engineer (09-027)
Duties & Responsibilities:
· Providing innovative, technically significant, and economically important material solutions in support of marketing, design and manufacturing
· Developing and managing materials joining work plans including schedules, budgets, and resource requirements to meet both EMD and project objectives
· Identifying, evaluating and resolving non-routine materials problems as they relate to non-traditional repair work in an accurate, timely and informed manner
· Proactively seek and accept responsibility for solving new and difficult materials joining, processing, application and manufacturing engineering challenges, while appropriately assessing and managing risks
· Effectively communicate technical concepts across all levels of EMD, CWFC and customer organizations
· Providing technical support to the skilled labor force and manufacturing support personnel
· Provide priorities and direction to the Weld technicians in the Strategic Development Lab to ensure timely completion of procedure and personnel qualifications and manufacturing development projects
· Identifying new and/or better materials joining processes/techniques for improving EMD applications
· Working with design and manufacturing engineering to resolve materials joining and processing issues before and during manufacturing and provide technical support to customers and suppliers
· Providing support in identifying and troubleshooting equipment problems
· Providing support to suppliers as required; perform supplier audits (domestic & international), process prove out and verification
· Interacting with customers and design engineers to ensure compliance with customer specifications
· Examining the interaction of materials in their processes and applications, taking into account the associated equipment, systems, components and their fabrication, design or use
· Developing, maintaining and applying materials and material solutions to meet certain mechanical, electrical, environmental, and chemical requirements
· Testing and evaluating substances for new applications
Minimum Qualifications:
· 5-7 years experience working in a metallurgical/materials/manufacturing engineering environment
· Bachelors degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Material Science (Master’s preferred)
· 5+ years experience with weld symbol and fabrication drawing reading skills
· 3-5 years experience with ASME Section III, IX; AWS D1.1, D1.2, D1.6; NAVSEA 250-1500-1, NAVSEA 392-0755 (seal welding), NAVSEA 0989-027-8000 (brazing standard), MIL STD 248/278, RCC-M
· 3-5 years experience working with carbon, low, high allow and stainless steels, casting equivalents, nickel and copper based alloys, Monel and nickel aluminum bronze as well as dissimilar metal joining
· 3+ years experience with casting processing, forging processing, heat treating, and plating (chromium, nickel and copper
