Description:
Essilor of America, Inc. (Essilor), is the leading manufacturer and wholesaler of prescription lenses in the United States.   We currently have a Lab Operations Trainer career opportunity at our Lenexa, KS location.
POSITION PURPOSE:
This position is accountable for a lab training territory.  Lab territory geographies vary depending on lab sizes and turnover.  Ensures that lab management is capable of managing local web-based training and partners with lab management to determine the “curriculum path” for individual employees.  Master certifies local trainers, as available, and/or personally trains new employees as required by a standard lab curriculum.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Completes all operation training (APEX-Optics) master certification requirements • Partners with Training Manager to determine training requirements for territory • Partners with local lab management to determine training requirements for existing and new employees • Builds and implements lab-specific master calendars • Trains local lab management to monitor new employee progress on required training and conduct final employee certification • Partners with local lab management to build individual employee curriculum paths • Certifies local part-time trainers, as appropriate • Conducts operations training using standard lab curriculum • Partners with Program Manager and Training Manager on emerging training needs and maintenance of existing curriculum • Partners with other Lab Operations Trainers to identify best practices and build deep technical knowledge • Achieves training goals within budgetary requirements
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of two years experience in full-time manufacturing training role • Bachelor’s degree preferred (business preferred) • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Software Suite • Previous experience in managing change • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems highly preferred • Exposure to web-based training highly preferred • Must be open to extensive domestic travel, 30%-75% depending on territory

Work Style • Makes good decisions • Works effectively with all levels of management • Prioritizes and effectively organizes work activities    Prepares for a learning event • Commands a thorough knowledge of content area • Bases training content on achievement-based objectives • Becomes informed about the educational level of the students served by the affiliate as well as the issues that need to be addressed in tutor training • Becomes informed of learning needs of prospective tutors    Establishes an appropriate learning environment • Assures a comfortable and safe physical environment (logistics and "housekeeping" issues • Uses warm-up activities related to content to engage participants in learning • Provides a safe learning environment for participants • Consistently demonstrates flexibility, patience, and respect for participants    Demonstrates professional presentation/platform skills • Uses appropriate body language and voice modulation • Chooses vocabulary, metaphors, and examples that are meaningful to the audience • Uses appropriate closed, open, and follow-up questions • Provides positive renforcement/paraphrases important content • Builds on and extends participants’ ideas    Conducts learning activities • Employs a variety of teaching techniques, including lecture, demonstration, role-play, pairs and small groups, and the use of multimedia aids • Honors different learning styles in the training design • Gives clear instructions • Defines the purpose of the exercises in relation to the content • Facilitates exchange among participants • Provides ample opportunity for review, practice, and reflection of newly learned material • Provides for application and reinforcement of previously learned skills    Manages the group process • Intervenes when problem behavior occurs • Demonstrates knowledge of the stages of group development and how the stages impact the learning environment • Monitors time for activities • Makes adjustments in scheduling, content, and process based on group background, experience, and feedback • Attends to the needs of diverse participants    Evaluates training outcomes • Assesses participants’ changes in skills, knowledge, and attitudes in relation to the training objectives • Adjusts training based on evaluations • Develops follow-up instruction based on identified participant needs
