Local candidates preferred Position Description: An Infrastructure Engineer SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) is a person who has an architecture role designing enterprise class scalable Microsoft SQL Server databases. The candidate is able to work with business and IT clients such as the Project Management Office (PMO) in order to translate business needs into an appropriate Microsoft SQL Server database solution. The candidate can perform data analysis in order to develop data models and data movement (ETL) solutions. The candidate possesses associated skills and experience in the Microsoft Windows operating system, Servers (especially database servers), SQL Server data storage solutions, high availability, role-based security, and networking in order to provide robust, sustainable and secure enterprise level database servers. The candidate must have strong SQL Server skills and experience (minimum of five years) in SQL Server 2005 and later versions, eg SQL Server 2008. At least two years of the five years experience must be with SQL Server 2005. The candidate has senior level DBA experience utilizing Microsoft SQL Server and related infrastructure technology. The candidates goal as a member of the ICS Engineering team is to use best practices to design an enterprise architecture which is holistic and supports clients application needs including data entry, data movement (data extraction, data transformation, and data loading ETL), data warehousing and data archiving. The candidate, in collaboration with other IT teams, will develop standards, processes and procedures including: Driven by clients database architectural principles, deliverable templates that include logical and physical database models with third party database hardware/software that meet a majority of the client project use cases Database server implementation knowledge of industry best practices and the application of those practices to each unique client project with deliverable run book (includes comprehensive design specifications including appropriate visuals, checklists, dependencies, etc.) Database server installation, configuration, maintenance, and consolidation processes Database health monitoring and performance trending Data replication, mirroring, data movement, etc. Utilize best practices to design an enterprise architecture which is holistic and supports clients application needs including: Data entry Data storage (ie determine the storage requirements of the application in order to configure the appropriate data storage solutions) Data movement (data extraction, data transformation, and data loading ETL) Data archival, data warehousing and reporting Database monitoring Apply security best practices Assist in the design of a Microsoft Windows Active Directory Domain that supports the database security needs Assist in the design of highly available technologies such as clustering, replication, load balancing, geographic clustering Assist in the design of multi-tier DMZ/Web/application/Front End/Back End database solutions Design a holistic enterprise architecture utilizing best practices from Web services to applications, to transformation engines, to database servers, to data warehouse(s). Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience: Business process analysis as it relates to data Data analysis, logical and physical data modeling Security practices and tools including: Encryption (data element, table, database, etc.) Obfuscation (eg PII, NERC CIP, A123, etc.) Accessibility (user, application/web services, reporting, data analysis) SQL Server 2005/2008 database administration in a enterprise consisting of multiple database Servers and multiple instances and multiple databases in physical and virtual hosts Scaling Microsoft SQL Server database to meet different client project needs: Physical and virtual Horizontal and vertical partitioning Tiering Clustering Multi-site mirroring Read-only databases to allow for data analysis/data warehousing Transact SQL (TSQL) SQL Server 2005/2008 tools including Management Studio, DBArtisan, Toad, etc. Best practices in: ETL (eg DTS/SSIS packages, XML, Biztalk, Informatica, etc.) SQL Server HA (high availability) Virtual Server Technology using Windows HyperV or VMWareESX. Microsoft Windows 2003/2008 Active Directory support Microsoft Windows and Veritas clustering technology High availability technologies Monitoring techniques to support Servers/Network/Desktops with MOM/SCOM, Nagios, SQL Profiler, etc. Capacity and performance analysis/planning/trending Storage solutions (eg SAN, DAS, etc.) to support database server installation Backup and recovery solutions Scripting such as Powershell, VB, C#, etc.
