PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Counselors for Children provide specialized and focused services for children including assessment and treatment within the FFSP scope of practice and services for children who have been or are at risk of exposure to domestic violence including safety planning and risk assessment.  Child Counselors also develop and implement prevention activities focused primarily on the prevention of violence to children.  These activities directly enhance the client’s ability to deal with abuse as well as provide more information to high-risk groups, medical professionals, educators and others about abuse and treatment.  Clinicians may work with FAP & non-FAP clients. 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
Education/Experience:
Master’s Degree in Social Work from a graduate School of Social Work accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, or
Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from a graduate program accredited by  the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy, or
Doctoral degree in Psychology from a program accredited by the American Psychological Association
Clinical license/certification to provide clinical services as an independent practitioner 
Two years post licensure clinical experience that includes a minimum of 2,000 hours post-licensure or 4,000 hours post degree clinical experience (Eligible for Tier III privileging IAW with Navy Standards) 
One year experience in assessment and treatment of children exposed to family violence
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of the special issues involved with providing clinical counseling to children who have been affected by abuse
Knowledge of family violency dynamics. local community resources and federal and state laws pertaining to domestic violence
Ability to perform accurate assessment of the child's presenting problem and to plan effective treatment for that problem
Ability to understand, be sensitive and relate to children who are clients as well as other family members
Knowledge of standard documentation requirements for clinical casework
Knowledge of the specific documentation requirements for domestic abuse cases
Ability to intervene in crisis situations, using sound professional judgment, ethical practice and common sense
Proficiency in oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software and skilled in the use of office software to enter appropriate case documentation information into FFSMIS
