Job Title: Senior System Engineer Department: Product and Technology Reports To: Information Technology Manager FLSA Status: Exempt SUMMARY The primary objective of the Senior System Engineer is to design, install and maintain the supporting platforms for Auctionpay's business systems in order to offer the highest reliability, performance, and security of the systems. The System Engineer ensures that backup systems operate effectively, supports the customer-facing production and internal business technology infrastructure for the organization, and contributes to the organizational policy with regard to quality standards, security and strategic planning. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Evaluates user needs and system functionality in order to ensure that customer-facing production and internal business systems meet the needs of individuals and projects. Ensures the smooth operation of all systems, including active directory, email, file management, databases, print services and business applications. Provides optimal security precautions including network and client firewalls, intrusion detection, anti-virus software, malware protection, data archival, remote access, backup systems, disaster recovery and credential management. Manages crisis situations, which may involve security violations or complex technical hardware or software problems. Performs regular system auditing tasks including daily log monitoring, regular system patch reviews and system alert message review. Creates and regularly updates the monitoring systems for production systems to ensure that appropriate personnel receive early warnings of potential issues. Effectively communicates relevant systems related information to the information technology team and superiors. Responds to escalated help desk issues that may involve complicated technical troubleshooting. Designs, configures and maintains telephone, fax and all other communications technologies for the enterprise. Architects, implements, documents and maintains all technology and procedures to comply with the security requirements of a financial transaction processor (PCI). Creates, monitors and maintains publicly available websites, including the management of SSL certificates. Continually keeps up to date with the latest technologies. Carries an automatic notification device and is available for after-hours on-call support. Maintains regular and predictable attendance at the worksite. Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A.) from four-year college or university; and 3 to five years related experience and training; additional years of training and experience and certificates can compensate for degree. At least 3 years experience with Microsoft systems, database and Web applications deployment, and 1 year experience with Firewall management and other security technology. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical documents, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from internal and external clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to management. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, and IP sub-netting. COMPUTER SKILLS The entire focus of the position is on the computers or the networks on which computers communicate. Has advanced skills in working with hardware, software, support, and management of computer systems and can adapt extremely well to newer applications. Had advanced skills working with programming and networking computer software and systems. REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Strong skills and experience in resolving technical problems within a limited timeframe. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE). PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. This job requires the individual to be able to mount and remove hardware up to 50 pounds on their own, or up to 75 pounds as a team, into racks or cabinets. In addition, hardware may need to be moved from one location to another, usually using a cart of similar device. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and prolonged exposure to computer displays. WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; However, the data center and server rooms may exceed moderate noise levels.
