Job Summary
Possesses expertise within a domain of data management (PeopleSoft Financials) associated with financial, actuarial, or corporate processing and reporting applications. Manages the work activities and staff of the functional area and has full management responsibility for the performance and development of subordinate staff in accordance with corporate strategic direction. Promotes data standards, and corporate coding structures through deep knowledge of CNA's products and services, external statutory, regulatory and financial (GAAP) and internal management information reporting requirements through leadership of others. Provides data-related technical guidance to direct reports and may also participate on project teams with cross-functional representation. Influences data policy development. Ensures timely and accurate development/design of data solutions to business problems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Has formal people management responsibility and also participates in or leads cross-functional, data-related project teams.
2. Acts as liaison among management, technical staff and subject matter advisors to understand business needs/issues, troubleshoot problems, conduct root cause analysis and develop cost effective resolutions for data anomalies. May engage directly in this capacity or partner with others in a leadership role
3. Provides direction to members who evaluate and implement requests and requirements for application and value changes associated with complex data structures. Approves requests following review of supporting documentation and data analysis, ensuring that changes comply with corporate data policy and/or reporting needs. Ensures timely completion of all table and documentation updates.
4. Drives accountability for data integrity by developing necessary processes and controls around the flow of data. Monitors the execution of such processes to ensure adherence.
5. Coaches team members and ensures timely completion of data transformations and mapping specifications to ensure that data is of its highest quality at all points in the end-to-end process for appropriate financial, operational and analytical purposes. Proactively recommends improvements to existing data flows to ensure quality of transformed data.
6. Verifies accuracy of table changes, data mapping and/or data transformation processes through review of team's work product. Ensures adequacy of test plans and monitors the review of test results associated with data processes within or between applications.
7. Manages and provides direction to those who utilize data and/or metrics from applicable systems to review data processes, identify issues, determine resolution or escalate problems that require data, system or process improvements.
8. Participates in data architecture discussions and provide impact assessments pertaining to the use of existing or creation of new data structures which will enhance current systems and support overall corporate and business goals. Provides technical consultation to business and technical clients to ensure development of efficient application systems that comply with architecture standards and data policy.
9. Manages the definition, publishing and changes to corporate codes.
May perform additional duties as assigned.
