MyLife.com is hiring a VP of Engineering for our Search Technologies group located in Mountain View, CA. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding and hands-on experience in building and managing large-scale search engines. Qualified individuals will be skilled in all aspects of systems engineering, have demonstrated ability in scaling to large systems, an ability to develop innovative and scalable software, and excellent people management skills.
 
Responsibilities:
Establish the technical strategy for MyLife’s search efforts, create a short- and long-term engineering roadmap, and prioritize the work efforts of your team
Manage a group of very bright, very competent employees. The successful candidate will have demonstrated success in recruiting, training, mentoring, motivated, and leading a cohesive technology team
Manage schedules, milestones, staffing, and budgets for multiple, concurrent projects
Accurately and efficiently estimate, communicate, and meet product delivery schedules
Continue to grow the team in Northern CA by attracting and hiring new team members
Work closely with key stakeholders to identify, recommend, develop, and support cost-effective technology solutions for our business
Ensure collaborative and effective workflow and communication between engineering, product management, and our business teams to consistently meet business objectives
Implement processes and procedures to ensure product quality and improve time-to-market for our new products
Design, implement, and manage a complex, multi-tiered distributed service-oriented architecture that is flexible and scalable to support a dynamic product roadmap
Conceptualize, architect and implement techniques to increase search relevance
Delivery high-quality, well-tested, scalable code on a consistent basis
 
Qualifications (required):
8+ years experience as an individual contributor in the definition, design, and construction of highly scalable software applications
5+ years management and leadership experience
Specific experience in developing search engines
First-hand knowledge of Linux and open-source software
Understanding of large-scale distributed high availability web-based services
Proven track record of designing and implementing highly complex systems
Solid understanding of development methodologies, release processes, and testing
 
Capabilities:
Strong conceptual, analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and planning skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced team-oriented environment
Adaptability to the demands of constantly growing and changing operational and production environment
Lead others to success
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
 
 
Experience/Education:
 
Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or similar field is required. Graduate degree preferred.
