RightNow Employees work in a dynamic fast paced environment. The Hosting department maintains the servers and architecture that run our SaaS (Software as a Service) CRM platform. Our current stats are 750 million page turns per month on 283 MySQL instances, 74TB of data across thousands of unique schemas. We have a complex replication setup with unique python scripts to maintain our servers. You would work on a small team of currently 4 systems administrators/engineers that specialize in our MySQL databases.  As a MySQL Database Engineer’s for RightNow Technologies your role is to design, install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. You are also responsible for developing automation processes, benchmarking, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software in the RightNow Technologies hosting environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Following are a list of essential duties and responsibilities: 
Design, install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability
Developing automation processes, benchmarking, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software in the RightNow Technologies hosting environment
Troubleshoot difficult issues until problem is resolved, including digging into code and finding logic errors or inefficiencies.
Strong systems administration skills including Linux and network troubleshooting
Kickstarting machines, configuring RAID, fiber channel, and bash scripting
Assist MySQL DBA team in supporting operations
Python programming experience a plus   

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Background
Following are a list of essential knowledge, skills, and background:
College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or three years equivalent work experience
Certifications in MySQL or Linux recommended
Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices
Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting database servers, including MySQL, Postgres, Oracle, or SQLServer
Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience
Project management experience
Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives
Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
Good written and oral communication skills
Strong technical documentation skills
Good interpersonal skills
Ability to conduct research into database issues, standards and products as required
Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language
Highly self motivated and directed
Keen attention to detail
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
Strong customer service orientation
Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Ability to troubleshoot difficult issues until problem is resolved, including digging into code and finding logic errors or inefficiencies. Enjoys finding and fixing tough problems
Very familiar with benchmarking techniques/implementation and driving performance from a system
Strong systems administration skills including Linux and network troubleshooting. Kickstarting machines, configuring RAID, fiber channel, and bash scripting
Ability to learn complex systems
Strong coding background with ability to maintain large projects
Ability to program in Python
Ability to read C/C++ and PHP code and pinpoint bugs and inefficiencies
MySQL certified
Understands and has implemented the concept of horizontal scaling
Reads mysqlperformanceblog.com and is looking to test and implemented ideas discovered from reading this site
Has read and understands information in "High Performance MySQL Second addition".
