ACTIVE OPHTHALMOLOGIST

Help preserve our Soldiers' vision. As an ophthalmologist and Officer on the U.S. Army Health Care Team, you'll examine and treat ocular injuries and diseases. Working alongside dedicated health professionals in our ready-made practice, you'll have the opportunity to build a successful career without concerns about overhead costs and malpractice insurance premiums. Requirements include:
- Doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathy degree from an accredited U.S. school of medicine or osteopathy; foreign graduates may apply if they have a permanent certificate from the Educational Council of Foreign Medical Graduates
- Current license to practice medicine in the United States, District of Columbia or Puerto Rico
- Eligibility for board certification
- Completion of at least one year of an approved Graduate Medical Education (GME) internship
- Completion of a training program in ophthalmology
- Between 21 and 42 years of age (health care professionals ages 43 to 60 are now eligible for a two-year service contract under the OAPP program)
- U.S. citizenship


RESERVE OPHTHALMOLOGIST

Help protect our Soldiers and their Families from ocular disease and injuries. When you become an ophthalmologist and Officer on the U.S. Army Reserve Health Care Team, you'll have the opportunity to use the latest technology and learn the latest procedures. By practicing in your community and serving when needed, you can make a difference to your career and your patients.

Benefits include:
- Health Professional Special Pay of $75,000 for eligible specialties, paid in three yearly increments of $25,000
- Healthcare Professionals Loan Repayment (HPLR) of up to $50,000 over three years; may be applied toward qualified medical school loans
- Paid continuing education and training

- Low-cost life and dental insurance
- Travel opportunities, including humanitarian missions
