Basic Function:
Serve as a proactive team member in the M&T Branch system. Tellers are the foundation of building customer loyalty through providing distinctive and excellent customer service.
Responsibilities:
Duties include accurately processing a variety of financial transactions, balancing work daily, and supporting the operations and service functions of the branch, including adherence to all security, reconciliation, monitoring and balancing policies and procedures. As a branch team member you will be responsible to identify and refer sales opportunities by uncovering financial needs and educating customers on banking products and services. You will play an integral role in achieving branch goals. After successfully completing a new hire training program, senior tellers will receive ongoing training that can transition them to higher-level positions. Provide retail and commercial customers with excellent service by processing a variety of transactions accurately and efficiently, including deposits, withdrawals, loan payments and check cashing. Maintain a professional manner to build customer confidence and trust. Support the Bank's guidelines for providing excellent customer service, including greeting customers, smiling, using their name and building a rapport with customers that generates customer loyalty. Proactively identify referral opportunities utilizing the fundamentals of the sales process by uncovering customer needs and suggesting bank products and services. Achieve personal referral goals and actively participate in branch sales promotions and take part in weekly sales meetings. Possess and maintain thorough knowledge of procedures required for ATM settlement, Canadian currency, night depository, reserve cash and coin maintenance, negotiable control and review, opening and closing procedures, ordering of cash, preparation of cash for shipment and receipt of cash shipment. Input ABS figures and input information into the CTR system. Verify endorsements, place holds and disburse cash. Issue receipts for transactions processed and balance daily work. Adhere to all procedures stated in the Teller Difference policy and follow up with current gain/loss ticket documentation. Provide guidance and training to new tellers as necessary. Own customer error resolution including resolving routine customer problems and referring more complex issues to supervisor or platform. Ensure compliance with operational, security and control policies/procedures, preventing fraud and protecting customer assets. In order to assist the branch team, additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Basic Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent work experience. One year previous Teller experience, particularly strong in branch operations. Completion of all training classes provided for tellers. Proven customer relations and referral track record. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Well-organized individual with time management and prioritization skills. PC experience to include working knowledge of office software for word processing, spreadsheets, and e-mail. Experience with Internet preferred. Ability to use fax, telephone system, copier and other communication tools.
