Description:
Design Manager-Robern
The Design Manager is responsible for the developing and managing a world-class design studio that continually sets new strategic standards for design and function for Robern. While working collaboratively with Robern and Kohler Co. NPD Community, challenge convention when it comes to process, ideas and materials with the goal of advancing the position of the Robern Brand in the Industry. Ensure the NPD team is visionary with an eye towards effective use of resources, manufacturing capability, and ease of assembly. Lead in the creation of product strategies, showroom display strategies, and aesthetic consumer trend research.
Primary Function:
Share the vision of the Company and align with business leaders regarding the vision and mission of New Product Development (NPD).
Empowered to envision and implement strategies to bring unique design innovations to market.
Have a responsible business aptitude that supports long term visionary growth. Actively pursue and influence the strategic direction for products within the category, influencing the New Product Schedule (NPS).
Work with manufacturing and sourcing to develop capability in the parts of the world that will bring growth via improved cost positions and regionally targeted products.
Develop, teach and champion design procedures, tools and techniques.
Understand the consumer so that functional aspects can be considered along with business objectives, aesthetic needs and cost objectives.
Work with Marketing and Sales and is responsible for proper representation in retail showrooms and tradeshows.
Determine approaches to concept development and execute design research, product concepts drawings, physical modeling, and product presentations.
Take primary responsibility for D1 and Design Review.
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor degree in Industrial Design from an accredited university with academic emphasis on product design with experience in appliances, medical equipment, lighting, or related field and min of 7 years Industrial Design experience. Relevant Continuing Education; Masters in ID, Project Management, or Product Development is ideal. Must have a good understanding of Engineering and Marketing disciplines and have had success leading the Design Function in Cross-Functional Teams. Must be proficient in Alias, Rhino and Photo-Shop. Pro-E experience is a plus.
