Job Description TITLE: Manager, Infrastructure Applications LOCATION: West Chester, PA REPORTS TO: Sr. Director, Platforms Engineering and OperationsJOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Job Summary: This individual will be a member of the Infrastructure and Operations Organization, and will build and manage the team that engineers and operates the system infrastructure and management software required to support Back Office and customer facing applications such as Billing, Provisioning and DNS/DHCP infrastructure and more. As a technical people manager, this person must be well versed in the relevant technologies, be able to recruit and lead technology engineers, and interface with senior business unit personnel and other engineering teams as necessary to enable the best end-to-end customer experience. This person and their team will be in charge of handling the full range of activities required to become a World Class Operations team including; working with vendors, developing and implementing new systems and network designs, deploying software, building or integrating reporting, monitoring, and analytics, performing day-to-day Microsoft-based systems and management software and other operations activities as required. The Microsoft-based systems management software include but are not limited to: Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS); Citrix and Microsoft Windows Mobile based handhelds. Major Duties: Primarily responsible for the day-to-day, 24x7x365 on-call, engineering, operations and maintenance of Microsoft-based systems and applications across development, testing and production environments. Microsoft-based systems management software include but are not limited to: Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS); Citrix and Microsoft Windows Mobile based handhelds. Hire and maintain a team to perform this work with Operations Excellence. Directly manage a team of Systems Engineers, including the planning, scheduling, and coordination of work efforts within the group. Create and/or integrate with systems necessary to monitor the customer experience, troubleshoot the systems, and to analyze and proactively manage the systems. Continuously improve operational efficiencies through the use of automation and process improvements. Suggest design and architecture modifications to improve system stability, performance, and TCO. Anticipate internal customer needs and requirements, and coordinate with other departments or vendors to meet customer needs. Apply technical knowledge to determine solutions and solve complex problems. Ensure integration and alignment of work across departments to meet objectives. Work with engineering and vendors on software updates, consulting service delivery, and product roadmaps. Provide review and input into the design of new technical features and architectural changes. Lead team performing Microsoft SMS, Citrix and Microsoft Windows Mobile installation and related component upgrades, patching, tuning, and troubleshooting on several thousand servers. Help develop and implement a capacity model, total cost of ownership model and scaling plan for the platforms. Participate directly in testing and planning to prepare for system upgrades. Perform troubleshooting and problem resolution activities with other support teams (eg network support, NOC, vendors). Produce Root Cause Analysis findings that focus on recommendations to learn from and avoid problem recurrence. Maintain productive relationships with peer organizations and vendors. Prepare and submit budgets and staffing plans as needed. Other duties as assigned. Required Skills/Experience: At least 3 years experience managing large organizations of technical personnel in a customer-facing 24x7 operations environment. Deep experience with large-scale, highly-available customer-facing IP application services. At least 2 years experience with systems management software, or other IP applications is required. Hands-on experience with Microsoft-based operating systems. Hands-on experience with IP networking (eg TCP/IP troubleshooting, DNS, DHCP, NAT). Experience with highly-available/clustered database systems (eg Cluster Server). Experience with SANs and storage systems (eg EMC, HDS, Brocade, FCIP, iSCSI). Demonstrated understanding of the software development lifecycle and agile development. Demonstrated ability to manage component and systems level total cost of ownership, development of associated models and support systems. Excellent project management and change management skills, including demonstrated ability to stay organized while multi-tasking between several projects, and to adapt to change. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, communicating complex information easily and clearly. Ability to work independently, with minimum of direction. Demonstrated ability to recruit, retain, lead and motivate technical teams. Desired Skills/Experience: At least 3 years in-depth experience with IP networking (TCP/IP packet analysis, DNS, DHCP, NAT, etc.) At least 3 years of Microsoft systems administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting experience in a large-scale (1000+ servers), customer-facing environment. Programming skills in VBScript, Jscript, PowerShell; all Microsoft Windows Shell Scripting. Skills with Web based embedding (HTML, PHP, etc.) Experience managing Microsoft Servers remotely in a distributed environment. Experience operating and troubleshooting Web application servers. XML experience is a plus. Education: Bachelor s degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent in work experience and self-study. Advanced degree is a plus.
