Description:
Our client delivers more travel products and services to points of sale in more countries than any other travel distributor. They are looking for a Director of Application Development who can deliver innovative solutions and consultancy which remove cost, deliver value and enable business competitiveness for our customers. Candidates will need to demonstrate expertise in several key areas including: 1. 15 years+ of experience in software application development AND management of global application development teams. 2. Technical expertise in both a .NET (old platform) and J2EE (new platform) technologies3. Manage 15 direct reports with over 100 on/offshore resources4. Ability to negotiate with third party partners and resources to ensure delivery of SLA's and contractual terms5. Willing to travel 40% of the time to various locations. Qualified Candidates will be responsible for: -Developing, executing and maintaining a revenue generating solutions for the major product line portfolio -Provide API pre and post sales consultancy -Ensure that regional solutions design is within the technical strategic direction and where appropriate make recommendations for strategy change and improvement-Contribute to solutions innovation across Americas including the technical impact of 3rd party integration, local scripting/development and customization-Provide hands-on consultancy to customers by means of prototyping and proofs of concepts-Work across all partners and stakeholders in Americas and Product organizations to ensure solutions are viable, sustainable and add commercial value to our sales-Be the technical expert in the formulation of bids, RFI s, RFP s, RFQ s-Present technical solutions and provide pre sales support to the customer on technology/technical matters-Conduct/participate in formal technology reviews of technical architecture and solution design-Liaise with other Solutions Architects on a global basis to ensure commonality of approach and optimisation and re-use of technologies across the company -Provide technology expertise and consultancy to Americas sales to ensure that the appropriate technical approaches are taken across the product s life-Identify and investigate opportunities to use emerging technologies in providing cost effective and flexible solutions-Ensure technology deliverables meet specified requirements, costs, timelines and quality through liaison with key stakeholders in Project Management, Product Management, third parties and other Technology teams where appropriate. Anticipate and proactively address architectural technical risks before they become project issues. Identify and contribute to the evaluation of third party solutions for integration into the Travelport technical portfolio ensuring business requirements are satisfied. Be the technical subject matter expert and share knowledge and expertise with others in the organization. Provide, present and justify the detailed architectural designs as part of the budget approval process and in adherence with internal project delivery processes. Maintain an up to date knowledge of Development standards, development methodologies, technical trends and innovations in the industry. Qualified Candidates must possess: -At least 15 years experience in Software Development.-Proven leadership ability.-Proven experience in .NET Framework 2.0 or above and J2EE technologies and architecture-Proven track record of developing technical architectures on time and within budget, ideally in a travel systems environment-Understanding of relational databases-Able to think strategically and challenge current technical thinking-Excellent customer relationship management skills-Experience of data manipulation and presentation technologies, preferably in a travel systems environment-Proven understanding of networking technologies-Knowledge of competitor s components and solutions and other solution providers in the travel industry.-Knowledge on any of the company's API is a plus.-Excellent command of verbal and written English and excellent technical presentation skills-Ability to multitask and prioritise within a continuously changing environment-Able to build and maintain rapport with all levels of the organisation and where appropriate, manage stakeholders across different cultures-Dynamic and self-motivated with high level of energy and enthusiasm-Good planning and project management skills-Experience of commercial package evaluation and integration/implementation.
