Description:
The Development Manager – QA Test Systems will lead the creation and implementation of technical white and black box testing across our product suite by leveraging planning, people, infrastructure and processes. The key activities will be organizing and directing multiple teams of Software Engineers to deliver superior quality and on-time product releases to our customers. These teams are involved in a lot of fun areas: Web Services (SOAP/WSDL), APIs, application add-ins, utilities, computer telephony integration, Chat applications, installers, login authentication, code backward compatibility, Citrix, Terminal Server, performance test engineering, Hosting infrastructure, upgrades, etc. The Development Manager – QA Test Systems will work with senior management to optimize RightNow product quality by adopting and continuously improving testing tools, processes and technology. Specific responsibilities include:
Manage teams of Software Engineers to test RightNow products using code-based, functional, automated, white & black box, environmental, system and performance testing approaches.
Achieve department goals for on-time product releases, test coverage, defect identification, test automation, performance, overall quality, etc.
Plan, develop, implement and report on new testing approaches to ensure ever-improving product quality.
Assume ownership for and implement systems and processes to accomplish strategic goals of the organization.
Resource allocation/optimization, hiring and planning activities.
Manage growth and development of personnel including recruiting/hiring, career development, coaching/mentoring, conflict resolution, performance management and succession planning.
Identify and promote industry best practices.
Build and reinforce interdepartmental relationships by driving excellence in communication.
Fully partner with Development, Support, Product Management and other cross-functional project teams to ensure people and processes deliver on project objectives.
Lead and coordinate cross-departmental efforts to conduct root cause analysis of product issues and implement solutions that are then verified through testing.
Assume a ‘mentor’ role for all staff.
Develop metrics for measuring performance of the team in an effort to understand strengths and weaknesses of each individual.
Develop and expand knowledge of RightNow products and how our customers use them in their business operations.
Communicate effectively with other members of the development team, other departments and managers across the company.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Backgrounds
BS degree in Computer Science, MS degree preferred.
5+ years in a leadership role with direct reporting experience managing a team of technical QA Engineers and/or Software Developers including recruiting, mentoring and motivating a team to achieve continuous improvements and results.
5+ years demonstrated hands-on experience developing and de-bugging code including C/C++, C#, Unix shell scripting, PHP, Java, Python and/or Jython.
Experience in one or more of the following areas: Web Services (SOAP/WSDL), APIs, application add-ins, utilities (eg, email protocols), computer telephony integration, Chat applications, installers, login authentication, code backward compatibility, Citrix, Terminal Server, performance test engineering, network architecture, etc.
Knowledge and hands-on experience with a variety of test tools, ideally Compuware Testpartner & HP LoadRunner.
Expertise with industry QA standards, processes, tools and methodologies demonstrated by personally implementing new practices in previous roles.
A highly organized individual who works well under pressure to complete tasks to meet tight deadlines via strong time/task management skills.
Strong interpersonal, communication, project management and organizational skills.
Willing to ‘roll up one’s sleeves’ and assist Engineers wherever needed.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Backgrounds
MS degree in Computer Science.
Industry experience in testing large scale enterprise software products (preferably SaaS/On-Demand and/or CRM applications).
Industry experience in Internet technologies, protocols, application delivery, SQL and relational databases.
Administrative level Linux and Windows OS expertise, including setup of extensive monitoring for performance testing purposes.
Experience with XML, SOAP and web service languages such as WDSL.
Strong networking design and tuning skills: IP, DNS, Routing, HTTP.
Demonstrated knowledge of HTML, SQL and/or VBA.
